Two 450 feet long reinforced concrete below grade coke wharves and four 1000 feet long elevated railroad structure for a green field 1.33 million ton per year coke battery and 90 mega watt electric co-generation plant, a $350 million project. The main design/build contractors were Raytheon and Flour Daniel.
The challenging foundation/pit design required solutions to high water level, dynamic impact of coke, railroad surcharge, pipe rack loads, long span building column loads, and irregular geometry. The fast track project was engineered and built to completion in less than two years.
The plant was completed in Summer 1998 and is in operation.
